Balassagyarmat

Palóc Múzeum
Balassagyarmat

Balassagyarmat (formerly Balassa-Gyarmath) is a county in the north of Hungary. I had a half-day trip to the Balassagyarmat. But it's enough to say a few words about this town. There is a Heroes Square in this town. The guide told me, that in 1919, the Czech troops tried to occupy the north of Hungary and many people died defending Balassagyarmat against the Czech army in 29-th of January, 1919.

I was in Palóc Múzeum in this town. The Palóc was the family, who bought this county from the state and managed themselves. They even had their own coat of arms. I saw the big map of former Hungary in the entrance of museum. The guide told me, that some of these places now in Slovakia, some in Romania and the east part is now in Ukraine. There was a section of old books in this museum.
